One person came to Hasan-Al-Basri(ra) and complained to him that in his area rain was not falling from the skies.
He asked him to say: Astaghfirullah (Forgive me O Allah).
Another person came to Hasan-Al-Basri (ra) and complained about poverty.
He asked him to say: Astaghfirullah (Forgive me O Allah).
After that third person came to Hasan-Al-Basri (ra) and complained that I don’t have children.
He asked him to say: Astaghfirullah (Forgive me O Allah).
After that another person came to Hasan-Al-Basri (ra) and complained to him that the Earth was not growing crops (of food).
He asked him to say: Astaghfirullah (Forgive me O Allah).
The people who were sitting besides Hasan Al-Basri (ra) asked: It’s strange; so many persons came with so many different problems and you asked all of them to say the same thing : Astaghfirullah
Hasan Al Basri(ra) said: Did you not read these Ayaat from Al-Quran :
10. I said (to them): Ask forgiveness from your Lord, verily, He is Oft-Forgiving;
11. He will send rain to you in [continuing] showers.
12. And give you increase in wealth and children, and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers.
(Surah Nuh: 71: 10-12)
